The Westfield XI
The Lotus Eleven was the most successful of the sports racing cars in the mid 1950s - a 1,000 lb Colin Chapman-designed space frame car, sporting a beautiful, aerodynamic body; the form of which was designed by aerodynamicist Frank Costin. The Eleven surpassed the earlier Lotus cars both in its competition success and number, with some 270 units produced through 1958.
In competition, the Lotus Eleven set the closed-course world speed record at Monza, Italy in 1956 for the 1100cc class at 143 mph. At the Le Mans 24-Hours in 1956 an 1100cc Lotus Eleven was first in class, 7th overall and 4th in the Index of Performance. In 1957, five Elevens were entered. The Lotus Elevens were 1st and 2nd in the 1100cc class (9th overall), 1st in the 750cc class, and 1st and 2nd in the Index of Performance. At the 1957 Sebring 12-Hour enduro, an 1100cc Lotus Eleven finished 11th place, 1st in class.
Although many years have passed since its introduction, the visually stunning Lotus Eleven remains the fastest, most successful front-engined, small displacement sports racer ever built. Period.
In 1982 the newly formed Westfield Sportscars began production of the Westfield XI, which soon found racing success at many track days and club events the world over. But as times changed and demand for other Westfield models grew stronger, production on the XI ceased in 1986.
Now, over 20 years later, following popular demand and in celebration of the Lotus Elevens 50th Anniversary, limited production has resumed, and once again it is possible to sample the thrill of classic racing without the otherwise prohibitive cost.

Today, just as before, the Westfield XI has a tubular space frame chassis with stressed aluminum panels. Traditional wire wheels carry race bred wishbone suspension using coil spring damper units on the front. Rear suspension now features four parallel trailing arms located by a transverse panhard rod suspended again by coil spring damper units. The modified rear axle is obtained from the Midget/Sprite range, as is the driveshaft, engine and gearbox. Bodywork is manufactured in glass fiber allowing for economical maintenance, and can be completely removed within seconds.
